The USAmade Score™

Under the FTC's "Made in USA" standard, a product can carry an unqualified "Made in USA" claim only if "all or virtually all" of it is made in the United States — meaning final assembly happened in the US and substantially all of the materials, components, and processing originated in the US. Many products labeled "Made in USA" do not actually meet that bar; that's what BornStateside is built to surface.

"Assembled in USA" means the final assembly steps happened in the United States, but components and materials can come from anywhere. "Made in USA" implies a much higher bar: virtually all materials and processing are domestic. On the USAmade Score™, fully assembled-in-USA goods score around 3–5; fully sourced and manufactured in the US score 10.

We rely on a mix of manufacturer disclosures, supplier interviews, public sourcing statements, and on-the-ground confirmation when possible. Each product is assigned a 1–10 USAmade Score™ based on how completely it is made in the United States. Anyone can flag a listing that appears inaccurate and our editors will review it.

A 10 means every material was sourced in the US and every construction step was performed in the US. Lower scores reflect partial sourcing, partial manufacturing, or unverified claims.
