Company Story
Tervis Tumbler traces its roots to 1946, when two Detroit engineers — Frank Cotter and G. Howlett Davis — invented a revolutionary double-walled insulated tumbler that kept drinks hotter and colder far longer than conventional glassware. They named the company by combining the last three letters of their surnames: tervis. Shortly after, John C. Winslow purchased the product rights and moved manufacturing to Florida, where he began selling tumblers "from dock to dock, from fairway to fairway" out of outlet stores connected to the factory. The company was officially incorporated in 1967.
Over the decades, the Winslow family grew Tervis into a beloved Florida institution, building its reputation on three pillars: high quality, extensive customization options, and a lifetime guarantee. Under CEO Nigel Donelly, who took the helm in the late 1990s, the company expanded from 20 employees and three Florida retail stores to hundreds of employees, branded retail locations nationwide, and licensing deals with all four major American sports leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL), the U.S. Armed Forces, and hundreds of universities.
In September 2024, Tervis filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy citing shifting industry trends and ongoing litigation, but emerged successfully from restructuring on February 11, 2025. Shortly thereafter, in August 2025, the company was sold to JV2 Innovative Products LLC, an investor group that relocated headquarters to Bradenton, Florida.
Manufacturing remains in Osprey, Florida (928 S. Tamiami Trail) — the company's original plant.
