How it's made
US-manufactured, mostly US materials
The CHANNELLOCK® 420 is the original and most popular Channellock model — a 9.5-inch straight-jaw Tongue & Groove plier forged from high-carbon C1080 U.S. steel in Meadville, Pennsylvania, featuring 5 jaw adjustment positions with a maximum 1.5″ jaw capacity and right-angle, 90-degree laser heat-treated teeth that grip in all directions for maximum bite and minimum wear. The patented undercut tongue-and-groove design prevents jaw slippage under load, the PERMALOCK® fastener permanently eliminates the nut-and-bolt joint failure common on cheaper pliers, and the patented reinforcing edge minimizes stress breakage at the joint for a tool engineered to last a lifetime. At 0.87 lbs and 9.5″ × 1.57″ × 0.47″, it strikes the ideal balance between grip strength and maneuverability — equally at home under a sink, in an engine bay, or on a construction site — finished with CHANNELLOCK BLUE® comfort grips to reduce hand fatigue during extended use.
Why the USAmade Score™ is 7/10
Channellock states "100% Made in USA" and "forged from high-carbon U.S. steel" directly on every product listing — providing both a manufacturing and primary raw material origin confirmation that few tool brands can match. The forged steel body is the dominant material by weight, value, and function, and is explicitly US-origin. The only unconfirmed input is the CHANNELLOCK BLUE® PVC grip coating, a minor polymer component without a disclosed US-origin raw material claim, placing this at a 7.
